Waiting On Wednesday #197 – Die Hausboot-Detektei by Amy Achterop

There are a lot of new books coming out each year and some of them catch my attention and will get a spotlight in my Waiting on Wednesday post. While some of them will finally end up here at my place, others won´t. I am joining Tressa at Wishful Endings and her meme Can´t-Wait Wednesday.

A crime novel that caught my attention with its cover. It looks simple and the story itself seems to be one I could read within a few hours. And it will be a new-to-me author. So why not.

Arie, Maddie, Jack, Jan, and Elin are still looking for their place in life. And find him on an old houseboat, where they set up a detective agency to deal with the cases the police don't want to do. They grow tomato plants on the deck, enjoy the Amsterdam canal idyll in a deck chair, drink Irish coffee with lots of whiskey and lots of cream on cloudy days, and watch old Miss Marple films together. The hobby detectives are well prepared for their first assignment, which takes them to the city's gastronomic scene, where a culinary competition between two-star chefs has broken out. The detective agency is supposed to spy on a recipe when suddenly a drowned corpse is found: the famous sommelier Henk Perenboom, of all people. What is the connection between the three gourmets, and who is fooling whom? In any case, one thing is certain: together, the detectives don't do badly at all.
