I read this novel many years ago and got back to it because of another read in the Regency genre. You can´t really compare them, because Julia Quinn is one of a kind and has a unique style. So, yes, this one is another wonderful book in the Bridgerton series. A family with quite some humor, the right amount of love and loyalty for each other and the instinct to help others if needed.

Michael Stirling could choose his future wife from among the most beautiful young ladies in society. But he is hopelessly in love with the only one he can't have: the enchanting Francesca Bridgerton has married his cousin John! As a man of honor, Michael must be content with the role of a good friend for better or for worse. When John dies shortly after the marriage, Michael still doesn't dare to confess his feelings to his secret lover. Instead, he travels to India to distract himself from his burning longing in the distant country. But he can't stand it without Francesca and returns to London. Just in time! Because Francesca is planning to marry for the second time.
Story
Young Michael Stirling, the new Earl of Kilmartin, has a big problem. He loves and lusts after Francesca, widow of his late cousin John, from whom he inherited the Kilmartin title and fortune. He devises a plan to get Francesca into his arms and in Scotland at Kilmartin, the family's ancestral home, his plan seems to come true. But he underestimated Francesca's will, her stubbornness, and her loyalty to her late husband.
Style
The plot is divided into two parts. The time before India and the time after. The author has written down the story about Michael and Francesca in a personal narrative style, emotionally and in clear, simple words. The extremely hot love scenes are described in detail, but they still leave enough room for your own imagination. Julia Quinn not only effectively describes the landscape and locations in the story, but she also conveys the mood of each character just as effectively, giving the reader a sense that morality and conscience play a large part in the story, and not just because are therefore spoken.
Characters
Francesca, and Michael, are convincingly portrayed, and as you read you can very clearly feel they're torn between their feelings and moral loyalty to their late cousin, perceived brother, and beloved husband. Especially with Michael, the Earl of Kilmartin, this tormenting self-torture is shown very emotionally and openly, and as a reader, you really suffer when Michael calls himself to reason and you clearly feel that he would love to hug his beloved would tear.
Conclusion
A wonderful intoxicating story, with hot love scenes and a lot of feeling. Almost to melt away.
Happy reading
