With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC, or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it. And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*
I am linking up with Tynga´s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer and hope you´ll have fun reading it and maybe get the one or the other book inspiration.

Sunday Post #79
After I´ve had posted my last Sunday Post I went outside and found a bad surprise waiting for me in the attic or better said at one of the roof beams - A huge wasp´s nest the size of a soccer ball. The past week I was mostly on the phone with my landlord and staff from the local nature office to see if and how we can get rid of that nest. Almost all of these animals are under nature protection so you can´t just go and take them down or destroy them. And usually, it costs you some money to have a beehive or hornets´ nest removed. On Tuesday I made some pictures of it with a very unpleasant feeling in my stomach (I don´t like wasps) and now we are waiting for a decision. Worst case: we have to live with it until late autumn when the wasp queen is done with her work and looking for a new place. Best case: we can take it down.
Did I mention that I watched the movie Contagion with Kate Winslet last Sunday night? A weird if not surreal feeling. I mean, almost everything that happened in the movie we saw happening for real during the past months. Good, some things didn´t happen in real life, but most of the plot seemed as if the producers knew that Corona was coming at the start of 2020.
I don´t know why but the past week I´ve eaten almost every day a handful of cherries. They are delicious, good for my nutrition plan, and surprisingly cheap.
On Monday I heard the great news that my neighbor from across the floor had been tested negative for Corona. She and the care home she works in is corona free, healthy, and very happy. In fact, the care facility she is working for is the only one in the area who was from the beginning virus free and still is. That I call good news.
I also spoke with my father and stepmother Monday evening. My father is in good spirits at the moment, and I am not sure if I have to blame the Cannabis medication he is taking for that good mood or the fact that they can go out again and meet friends and family. And I heard that they bought a walking frame for him. Turns out, he felt insecure when he was out and about with his Nordic walking sticks. Apparently, he feels way more stable while walking with the walking frame and actually enjoys going out for a walk. I call that huge progress considering all the other things I had to endure the past weeks when talking with him.
The rest of the week was pretty much the same as the week before. But I started to stop watching the news again. The new spike in positive cases, not only in Germany but the US and other countries as well is something I don´t need to see or hear all day long. The fact that we passed last night the global number of confirmed 10 million cases and have now almost half a million deaths to mourn is very sad. And when I then see those fucking stupid people, young and old, men and women alike, who first touch with their bare hands their sweating faces and running noses and then have the impudence to grasp with the same bare hands into the shelves with the fresh bread and buns or the baskets with the fruits and veggies – How stupid can one be?! On Friday, when I watched this behavior again, I had enough and asked one man with the sweetest voice and smile I am capable of if he needed some eyes that could actually see and read and pointed with my forefinger at the red sign that said clearly “don´t touch the goods with your bare hands”. I am sick and tired of all those fucking morons who don´t think for one tiny second!

Good news about the neighbor. My mom is in a care home in a different state. They have had some cases but none in her building. People are so stupid. So I don't think things will get better anytime soon. Sadly. We just stay home and do what we can. Stay safe and well!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
You are so right with your words. It is sad. Stay safe and well.
DeleteOMG that nest was huge Vi!!! I would have fainted.
ReplyDeleteIt was close... And I know that I am not going near it any time soon.
DeleteWow, that’s a scary wasp nest. We’ve had a few of those on our rafters, but they weren’t that big. I hope wasps aren’t protected here because I spray the nests whenever I find them. :)
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was advised to not spray them at all no matter what. The paper they build on the outside is so thin and fragile, the wasps see everything that pushes against it (and a spray does exactly that while spraying) as an attack.
DeleteGood for you haha about the touching thing. It's mind boggling to me how things are going... we seem to be backsliding now. I hate to be snarky but are 2-3 months of sustained distancing/ actions all we can do as a society lol? Everyone seems to act like it's over and now things are bad again. Ah well... and good luck to your father! Glad to hear he is in good spirits. I saw Contagion too and yes it seems very prescient!
ReplyDeleteThe wasp nest- yikes! That would freak me out too having that up there. I hope you get the word soon and can get it removed with a minimum of hassle.
Your comment made me laugh. Well, I am not going near that nest for the next time, that´s for sure *lol*
DeleteI hope you are able to get rid of the nest, I’m allergic so I would not be happy about having it in my roof.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad to hear your father is in better spirits,
Wishing you a great reading week, stay well
I hope he will stay in that mood for the next few weeks. Would make things much easier for us all ...
