With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it.  And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*

I am linking up with Tynga´s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer and hope you´ll have fun reading it and maybe get the one or the other book inspiration.

Stacking The Shelves #112

Thanks to the German publisher S. Fischer Verlage, I had three review copies in the mail.

Sunday Post #69

I´ve never felt being on a rollercoaster as much as during the past week. Besides my daily dose of new Corona information, I watched some documentary on TV and one of them was about Notre Dame. As we all know, on 15th April 2019, the great cathedral in Paris was on fire. Well, this week the first anniversary of that sad moment kind of passed without the world noticing it that much. And due to Corona, the entire renovation work is now put on hold. (I couldn´t find out who the copyright has for this picture, so sorry for not naming it.)

On the very same day I was waiting for the news conference Chancellor Merkel wanted to give about the lockdown rules. It was kind of surreal to watch the documentary about Notre Dame and to keep at the same time an eye on the other channel. In the end, I heard that we would go into another fourteen days of the “no-contact-at-all” phase until 3rd May. After that, the government will see how things will go from there.

The good news from that conference was our bookstores are allowed to reopen again. At least those, who have a certain size of a square meter. Woohoo! And no, I won´t jump into my boots and move my bud there. Not right away. Because I guess that so many others will think the same. And besides that, I am now so used to call first and get some information upfront about the “how” and “when” that I will do that first before I set a foot outside with the direction “my bookshop” *smile*

On 16th April I had a fantastic moment with my mailman. He brought me books! Some of the upcoming new releases have arrived and during this dark time, it is literally a fantastic feeling to see that at least a bit of the “old normal” is coming back. I am not sure if we will ever be back to our “old normal”, the time before Corona hit the world so badly. Or if it will ever feel the same going outside without any fear or worries besides all those worries parents feel when their kids go outside. Know what I mean? It is a bit alarming to see how fast we adjust to the unexpected and how we cope with it. It is noticeable that more and more people are now wearing masks. They are called “Every-day- masks” and they are not to confound with the medical masks, that is for sure. My mask order arrived yesterday and I am not sure if choosing white ones, was the right decision, but I couldn´t imagine myself wearing a skull right over my mouth and nose *smile* And I have the strange feeling that those two masks aren´t the only ones I will buy or create myself in the future. Especially when I think of all the steps, I will have to do in the future to keep them clean and no danger to others. I only say hot wash and ironing them.

The virus doesn´t like hot temperatures but I also don´t like to start my washing machine for a small mask, so handwashing it is. That way I discovered that my kettle is probably about to stop functioning. He made noises I´ve never heard from that kettle the past ten years and I started to worry. And when I found water coming out of it where no water should be coming out, I stopped it and cooked the water the normal way. This morning I wasn´t sure if I should try my kettle again or better get me a new one *lol*. Boy am I done! But first I will have to get used to wearing them *smile* because it IS getting damn WARM under them! Holy smokes …

The prices for fruits and veggies have risen and after my last shopping tour to the supermarket, I now know that I will have to make some more changes. It´s either eating lots of veggies or enjoying some bread and buns. Guess the veggies will win …

I managed to do some blogging, edit some older posts, clean out my emails (feels like I´ve deleted tons of emails and probably have) and started a new book. But I can tell that my mind isn´t in the reading field as it used to be. My library just expanded the closing until 3rd May. I saw the new information yesterday when I checked my books and tried to reserve two new ones. I am only able to log myself in and see how things are, but other than that I can´t do anything I normally can. It isn´t a bad thing, not at all, well despite the obvious, but when I think about the new building the library was supposed to move into in the fall, I doubt that this will happen this year. And for sure not with the planned opening ceremony the mayor had in mind for this place.

Stay safe and healthy!

Happy reading

  1. Vi I get what you mean about adapting to our new normal but that's also an incredible asset! And yes I could kiss my postwoman (but I don't social distancing and all) each time she brings me books!

  3. I'd almost forgotten about Notre Dame... It's so weird to think that in January we were also watching Australia be consumed by bush fires. I thought that would be one of the "big things" of this year but C-19 had knocked everything else out the park!

    Take care, stay sane! :)

    1. Oh gosh, yes! The fires. Holy moly I totally forgot about them. Now I am wondering how all those, who´ve lost their homes because of the fires are now dealing with the pandemic. I´ll do my best to stay sane *smile*

  4. You got Vengeful! I liked that book. I’ve been handwashing my mask and hanging it up to dry every day. Luckily it dries fast because wearing a hot, damp mask sounds awful. Have a great week!

  5. It was so sad about Notre Dame and I can only hope that when this virus thing fades a bit that the renovations can continue. Glad to hear the bookstores can reopen though and hopefully that all goes smoothly. I do think masks will be the new normal for many of us, at least for a while, and while there seems to be some alrming amounts of denialism here in the States, many of us will probably take those precautions for some time.

Anyway be safe ad have a good week!

    1. Well, I guess as long as they don´t have a working vaccine or treatment for Covid-19 it will be the new normal wearing a mask when you go into a supermarket, shop, hotel or on public transportation. But we all have to handle them the correct way otherwise they will do more harm than good. And yes, I am watching what´s going on in the US with growing concern. Stay safe and well, Greg!

  6. Masks aren’t compulsory here but I do see a handful wearing them at the store. I do have a paper one that I’m keeping in case of emergency , but I agree they are uncomfortable to wear.
    Enjoy your new books

Wishing you a great reading week and good health

    1. In Germany they aren´t compulsory either. The government only gave us the "urgent recommendation" that we should wear them while on public transportation or in shops. But some states and cities require them now. And others will follow during the next days, I heard on the news this evening.

  7. I think it's crazy how fast we all adapted to the new normal, I suppose that is what fear does. We are the same, no contact until early May. It's not nice, but I know we'd all rather be safe. I'm getting my masks this week, I think I'll feel safer going grocery shopping when I have one.

    1. Yes, it is crazy. And believe me, wearing a mask is not making it any easier. At least not around here.

  8. I've been hand washing my masks too. I didn't even think about ironing them but that's a good idea.
